Food Map
Welcome to City Sifting’s Food Map: A mix of my two loves, food and geography. Click on the placemarkers to see photos and links to my posts.
Those marked with a pink push pin are my favorite five, which are apt to change with my mood.
Want to embed your own map in a Wordpress page?
I had a good deal of trouble embedding this map. I tried about 4 different plugins and followed instructions from 15 or so different sources, until I found this post.
The solution?
1. Download and activate the XML Google Maps Wordpress plugin
2. Scroll down the left side of your Wordpress dashboard and click on “XML Google Maps” listed under your “Settings” section
3. Locate your Google Maps API key and plug key into plugin settings. Click the somewhat disguised “Save Changes” button on the right side of the page.
5. Create a new post. Paste this code into new post:
![]()
6. Replace red text with your KML link from your Google map. Find your KML link by going to your Google Map page and right click while hovering over “View in Google Earth.” Chose “Copy Link Location,” which will save the KML link to your clipboard. Paste that link in the code above, replacing the red text. Choose appropriate width and height. (I use 517 x 388).
7. Save post draft. You will not see the map in your Visual or HTML editor. You will only see it when you click “Preview” or “Publish” and look at the actual page.
